ReD RiNg Of DeAtH ~ How many have you had?
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:23:24 AM »

I'm hearing about a lot of gamers here on the site complaining about RROD lately. So I thought I would ask the question ...

How long have you been playing Xbox 360 and in that time how many RROD's have you been victim of?

Me ... compared to most I have been on 360 fairly recently, about 15 months. I have had 1 RROD in that time. I bought another 360 while the first was being repaired (I'm very patient), and that was last June. I figure I'm about due for another RROD, and this time I have a backup on stand-by. 8) 8)

ive had one due to a lightnig strike that hit a tree thats not even 20 feet from my back door. It grenaded parts of the tree all ove my house and the strike itself took out my router, my xbox, and my brothers pc. so basically the lightning strike picked up through the wireless on the router and took out anything that was wired to it. prety freaky, aint it?

well, i havent had a single one yet, the only time i had to ship mine in was because i striped a gear that was essential to the disk reading laser. besides that i havent had much probs with rrod codes, the only time i do is when the power goes off because of the weather or something like that.

Technically I have had 3 RROD's but only 2 of them were mine.

My first one (Xbox 1) happened JUST before Christmas '07.  And at that time RROD was NOT COVERED by the warranty and it was past the year I had owned it so NO warranty and I would have to pay some undisclosed amount to have it fixed.  So I said, fuq it and went and bought a new one (Xbox 2).  January '09 rolls around and I am playing AC6 and my Xbox 2 SHITS THE BED.  So I jump online to see if my warranty is expired and lo and behold it is.  BUT, they have a new policy and if your 360 dies because RROD it is under a different warranty.

The RROD warranty, as it is called, is based on the fact that Microsoft has had numerous class-action lawsuits brought against them because of the RROD.

So I schedule a repair on Xbox 2, and send it off.  My buddy has 3 Xbox's and offers me 1 (it's a Jap model) and I bring it home, play for about 2 or 3 hours and BLAM, that bitch RROD's too.  SOOOO, because the RROD is NOW covered my buddy registers his Jap 360 for repair and they ok it.  In the meantime, I figure what can it hurt and I go grab Xbox 1 out of the closet, the one that died back in the winter of '07, and I put in a repair request  for it and wouldn't you know, they allow me to send it in NOW under their new (recent) RROD warranty program.

sidenote...  ANOTHER buddy of mine here in Anchorage had his 360 take a dump on him.  BUT, his was the full 4 red lights which is not the ACTUAL RROD.  Anyhow, he registered his 360 for repair and CLAIMED that it had the 3 RROD and sent it in.  He got it back a few weeks ago, NO CHARGE, and it works fine and is much faster and quieter.  SO, if you have any of the RED LIGHT ERROR messages, just send that bitch in and take your chance.  For real, they probably have some kid make 8 dollars 30 cent an hour and he doesn't give 2 shits or a fuq so he'll just repair it.

Good luck and FUQ the RROD!

I've had mine just a few days to a couple weeks over a year,

Havent had any problems yet, but can see I'm over due. I've only ever moved my X-box  once...when I moved to a new apartment, and have moved it in house..say from bedroom to livingroom or vice-versa...less then 10 times in entire. I dont have the extra fan that cools it, but I never leave my X-box on for long unless playing. Guess I just been lucky....

Power outages have worried me, or power surges actually, have seen the red rings..but they simple when away.  >:(

Its the dvd reader getting older that causes the noise, The mechanisms start to dry up from heating and cooling so much and dust sticking to the grease. Mine sounds like a 747 is taking off if i dont install the game to HDD first, Its a good feature and one they should of had from day one imo. That little less heat from the drive seems to make a difference to the heat problem that causes rrod. Im surprised my fifth box has lasted so long, I think the major factor for it is playing everything installed first.

I just got mine back a few weeks ago from a video hardware failure. Luckily it was in warranty.

I have had 2 RROD (3 Red Rings)

Here is a trick that worked for 2 buddies of mine so it might work for you.

My one buddy had some error message that popped up his Xbox was NOT covered by warranty.  SO, I told him to go through and set up a repair and claim it was the RROD (3 RR's), he did and just got his 360 back repaired, no charge.  My other buddy had the RROD (4 Red Rings) and he did the same and they fixed his as well.  Just send it in, they will fix it to avoid the bad publicity.

Can you also just throw some towels over it and let it bake, causing it to RR? Or is it a different RR that they will cover? I forget how many rings are for each error...

IF it is not under warranty anymore the ONLY thing they cover is the RROD (3 Red Rings).
