Topic: Hardest campaign you have ever played?

Just curious as to the hardest campaign you guys have ever played.  I just finished Call of Duty 4 on Veteran and it was far and away the hardest campaign I have ever played.  Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was pretty tough on Veteran but NOWHERE near as hard as COD 4 on Veteran. 

Another tough one for me was Gears of War 2 on Insane.  I know Fero and I cussed a LOT at each other during some of those, but that was multi-player campaign and COD is only single player campaign.  Plus GOW2 you could glitch by having the host play on Regular setting and then invite the other person and have them play on Insane.  Only the person playing on Insane would get the Achievements but the guy on Regular could run way ahead and do all the killing.

Please let's not turn this into a flame war about who is better and whatnot.  Just give me your ideas.  I heard about COD 4 from a friend.  He told me how hard it was so I got it and set out to prove him wrong.  FUQ ME!  I threw my controller about 6 times and cussed out loud numerous times.

COD2 on veteran is the first thing that pops into my head.

I remeber me and my brother spending a lot of time trying to get threw the Jet hover craft part (Or what ever you call it) Battletoads, B.T. / Doubble Dragon Very difficult!!

I was thinking more recent.  But I do remember back in the day playing some video games with my brothers and the competition of outscoring them was more brutal than even finishing the game.

Yeah. I would say that the NES game Strider was the hardest game I ever played. I can actually say its the only game I have never beaten because if its difficulty.

Metroid Prime series.... It took me forever and a day to beat them with 100% items found.... And when I say spaz attacks I mean SSSSPPPPAAAAAAZZZZZZ man..... I think I spent a kings ransom on controllers

Well old school? Ultima IV on the C-64. It my friends and I two years to finish...mostly because it was pirated and we didn't have the map, spell book, etc.

Myst back in the early 90's was hard as hell too!

Oh? I actually enjoyed that one. I pissed off my dad with how easy it was to get through that one. He actually got me the whole series just to try and see if I could beat them all. What part was hard for you? May still have my personal manual I made toi get through each puzzle. That was the fun part recording each and every soiund noise image and bug I saw just incase it was the answer to a puzzle later on in the game. I reallt loved the whole Myst series. The new ones are much less trouble as they do not require much recording of odd things to get passed each puzzle. But the game was very challenging to say the least. I must have played it about 10 times just for fun too see how fast I could get through it, from start to end. I think my record was about 6 hrs or so.

I can't think of a recent game that is anywhere near as difficult as the ones I remember in the 90's.

I guess they just don't make em like they used to. Games are made for a wider audience now so the shit players have to be taken into account.

I agree with you there. I have seen a complete dumb down of every kind of game that got a really big boost when HALO came out. They tried to make the skulls a bit tough to find but thats not even hard once you ask anyone who has them. It is just not fare we had to learn to trouble shoot problems in our games and now these kids just look for the cheat code or MOD pack so they can skip the whole process of thought in the game and get the gamer score for the games. Its really lame.

I've not played many games prior to Xbox 360, though I did play the Age of Empires games religiously on the PC. Some of those were virtually impossible to beat on the harder settings. I would literally be sweating after a game trying to keep up with the massive armies the CPU would throw at me. Just as you defeat one army you look at the mini map to see another blotch on the radar on the way to your land.

I never tried COD4 on vet, and thats because COD2 on vet broke me. I did actually smash a controller playing that one, and I was 90% finished at the time. I went to buy another controller about a week later, and when I loaded the game my save game was GONE. I would have had to start from the beginning again, I ALMOST smashed my new controller over that. Needless to say I wasn't about to start over. Some of those levels were insane, Jetmech knows, the silo? The trenches on the Normandy beaches? Popping the green smoke and waiting for reinforcements on D-Day? NEVER AGAIN!!

I was getting flashbacks just thinking about it.
Fucking silo...and I have a big 55" TV...I STILL had a hard time seeing those little bastards setting up mortars!
