ok, i've had a bit of issues with vlc lately, the damn thing crashes with simple seeking through a video. and now heres the real kicker, seeking through one vid, stops the vid and starts playing another vid entirely. personally the biggest issue is that the .mkv format, thats the main issue i think, pretty sure i'm gonna end up converting it to either .mp4 or .avi, i dont really care about file size, so the only thing i really care about is the ability to play the vid...

File formats are a big issue. that is probably your  best bet. I know lots of programs and apps get cranky when they can't read a file you tell them to. if that doesn't fix it though, you may have a bigger problem on your hands.
